Please telephone after 2pm for test results (Select Option 3). To preserve confidentiality, results may only be given directly to the patient or to the parents of minors.
If the result you are after was requested by a Hospital Consultant, you need to contact the relevant Consultant's Secretary at the Hospital.
The practice receives in the region of 400 results every week and it is impossible for us to contact every patient with their result.
We are in the process of developing a text messaging service, but need to have patient's consent for this. We aim to pilot this service later in the year. Please help us to help you by completing the consent form and handing it to our reception team.

When telephoning the Health Centre on 01379 898295 you will be given the following options:
- Press 1 for Life Threatening Medical Emergencies
- Press 2 for the Automated Appointment (GPs Appointments Only - Instructions below)
- Press 3 for Home Visits and General Enquires plus Results after 2pm.
- Press 4 for Pharmacy Queries
- Press 5 to Speak to a Receptionist or to Book Nurses Appointments
Please be aware, when you speak to a receptionist, they may ask you to give more information regarding your appointment request. This is so we can direct you to the right person for the care you require.
Ordering Repeat Prescriptions over the Telephone
To order a repeat prescription please call the Health Centre on 01379 890616 between the following hours:
Monday: 9.00am - 12.00 Noon & 3.00pm - 6.00pm
Tuesday - Friday: 9.00am - 12.00 Noon
Automated Appointment Telephone System
Appointments with the Doctor's can now be booked and cancelled out of Practice hours using the automated telephone system.
To use the automated telephone system called the Health Centre on 01379 898295 and select Option 2.
After selecting Option 2, you will be asked to enter the following information:
- Enter your/patients date of birth as six numbers e.g. 04 05 95
- Enter your phone number followed by the * key
- It will then ask you to verify your details.
You will then get the following three options:
- Book a New Appointment with a GP - Press 1
- Check or Cancel an Existing Appointment - Press 2
- Or Speak to Reception (*During Opening Hours Only) - Press 3
Parking & Disabled Access
There is a large car park available for patients to use free of charge. The Health Centre also has suitable access and toilet facilities for disabled patients.
Please call 0845 850 0774, giving at least 48 hours notice when requesting transport. This service is only available in cases of medical need. You will need your NHS Number - ask Reception for this if unknown.
Community Car Scheme
There is a local Community Car Scheme available for Patients needing to get to appointments at the Health Centre. Please ask Reception for Details.
The practice adheres to the current data protection legislation including Data Protection Act 1998, and will only disclose information about you, with your full permission, where there is a medical need to do so or there is legal requirement.
The practice will not tolerate verbal abuse, anti-social behaviour or physical aggression to our staff or visitors from any patient or other visitors.
Zero Tolerance Policy
We always strive to meet patient expectation and deliver the highest standards of healthcare and our staff have the right to be treated with dignity and respect at all times. For the vast majority of our patients we achieve this, despite the finite resources and steadily increasing demand for NHS services.
The practice also has a legal responsibility to provide a safe and secure working environment for staff. All patients are expected to behave in an acceptable manner and violent or abusive behaviour towards staff or patients may result in removal from our practice list or even criminal proceedings.
The practice fully supports the NHS Zero Tolerance Policy. The aim of this policy is to tackle the increasing problem of violence, abuse and harassment against staff working in the NHS and against patients. It also ensures that doctors and all other staff have a right to care for others without fear of being attacked or abused.
We understand that ill patients do not always act in a reasonable manner and will take this into consideration when trying to deal with a misunderstanding or complaint. We ask you to treat your doctors and all other staff courteously and act reasonably.
All incidents will be followed up and a formal letter will be sent. After a second incident a formal warning or in the case of a serious offence a patient may be removed from the practice list. After a third unreasonable incident a patient will be removed from the practice list.
Aggressive behaviour, whether it is violent or verbally abusive, will not be tolerated and may result in a patient being immediately removed from the Practice list and, in extreme cases, the Police will be contacted if a threat is posed to staff or other patients.
Examples of Unacceptable Standards of Behaviour
- Violence or aggression.
- Excessive noise e.g. recurrent loud or intrusive conversation or shouting.
- Threatening or abusive language and behaviour, involving swearing or offensive remarks.
- Derogatory racial or sexual remarks.
- Malicious allegations relating to members of staff, other patients or visitors.
- Offensive sexual gestures or behaviours.
- Abusing alcohol or drugs on practice premises.
- Drug dealing on practice premises.
- Wilful damage to practice property.
- Theft or fraudulently obtaining medication or altering prescriptions
- Persistent or unrealistic demands that cause stress to staff will not be accepted.
- Attending the surgery under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
Removal from the practice list
A good patient-doctor relationship, based on mutual respect and trust, is the cornerstone of good patient care. The removal of patients from our list is an exceptional and rare event and is a last resort in an impaired patient-practice relationship. When trust has irretrievably broken down, it is in the patient’s interest, just as much as that of the Practice, that they should find a new practice. An exception to this is on immediate removal on the grounds of violence e.g. when the Police are involved.
Reasons for removal will be given in writing.
Removing other members of the household - In rare cases, however, because of the possible need to visit patients at home it may be necessary to terminate responsibility for other members of the family or the entire household. The prospect of visiting patients where a relative who is no longer a patient of the Practice by virtue of their unacceptable behaviour resides, or being regularly confronted by the removed patient, may make it too difficult for the Practice to continue to look after the whole family. This is particularly likely where the patient has been removed because of violence or threatening behaviour and keeping the other family members could put doctors or other staff at risk.
We expect all patients to be responsible and avoid attending the surgery under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. Any alteration of prescriptions is illegal and will not be tolerated.
We welcome constructive criticism and suggestions. If you have a complaint in respect of the Practice please contact our Practice Manager. If the complaint is concerning the Dispensary/Pharmacy please contact the Superintendent Pharmacist. You can contact them by phone or in writing. We will endeavour to address the problem as quickly as possible. A leaflet detailing our full complaints procedure is available from the practice reception or pharmacy.

Fees for Private Work
Some certificates, forms and medical examinations are not covered by the NHS, therefore fees are payable in accordance with guidelines of the British Medical Association.
Our practice participates in the advanced training of fully qualified doctors who wish to specialise in general practice. This doctors have already undertaken several years of hospital medicine and are now learning the special skills of General Practice.
To assist in their training they are required to make video recordings of a number of their consultations. This will only occur with the full written consent of the patient. Intimate physical examinations will not be recorded and the camera will be switched off on request. We thank you for your help, but recognise your right not to take part.
Medical students are also occasionally attached to the practice as part of their education.
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (i.e. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS Services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working in Botesdale Health Centre in the last financial year was £60,566 before tax and National Insurance. This is for two full time GPs, five part time GPs and one part-time locum GP who worked in the practice for more than six months.
